This is the top two floors of a grey stone triplex, which is very typical of the area especially around the Carre St. Louis Park. Properties in this immediate vicinity have added value within the Plateau district. Total living space is quite large at approximately 3 000 square feet plus a private roof terrace. The interior is totally renovated: so is not at all a typical triplex configuration on the inside.
From the entrance, on the main floor there is a double salon living area, a large lobby and an “office” area, plus in the back is the Atrium itself which is open over 3 floors (down to the sauna room, or up a open iron staircase to the dining room and kitchen above). At the back of this main floor, there is also a bedroom adjacent to the greenhouse atrium, with its own large full bathroom.
Upstairs (which can be accessed from the front staircase next to the entrance way off the living room, or from the rear staircase in the atrium greenhouse) has a huge master bedroom facing west with a balcony and a large full bathroom. In the middle of the top floor is the open concept kitchen and dining room which is covered partially by the atrium: so you are dining under the stars in fact. At the back of this floor there is a bedroom also with its own full bathroom.
Kitchen facilities : All high-end appliances complete with dishwasher, full size wall oven, microwave, and a counter top stove, large center island work space and extensive cabinetry.
Furnishings and Décor : Style wise I tried to keep this place light and open: Most furniture is white and cream, with chocolate and yellow accents which add color throughout the house. The greenhouse is its own environment in a white setting. The floors are light colored natural hardwood; White tiles are in the kitchen and bathrooms. Other accents include ceiling fans, modern area rugs, halogen lighting and of course the greenhouse feature which gives this place its “Aix-en-Provence” feel.
Bathroom Facilities : Nice comfortable size bathrooms. Bowl sinks, walk in showers or combo shower and bathtub configuration, and all toilets are closed “European” style private rooms. Laundry facilities with a full size washer and dryer are located on the lower level beside the Jacuzzi room.
Sleeping Accommodations : This loft – condo has 3 closed bedrooms (each with their own full bathrooms: see above). Platform style beds and side vanities. The master bedroom is on the top level: with a king bed, two large bureaus, two dressers, TV, and closet facilities, two ceiling fans for air circulation ( A/C cooling or heat): plus a small balcony facing west.
Two more bedrooms (one queen and one double) : one on the top floor and one on the main floor adjacent to the greenhouse atrium (each with their own full bathrooms : one with a tub-shower and one a walk in glass shower).
Around the area : Everything you could want is literally within a few blocks of this location. The Plateau is now considered to be the most desired living area in Montreal : for the upwardly mobile: lots of “cachet” and very alive even well into the evening. Montreal is considered one of the safest cities in North America : The streets of the Plateau are full of people well into the night.
All around the area, you can find restaurants, bistros, boutiques, and stores of all sorts. Also, unique to the area are “bring your own wine” restaurants : wonderful really in that you can go to the wine store (which is only a few blocks away!) and buy a nice or even a great bottle of wine (or Champagne?) and take it to any of many fine restaurants for a great inexpensive but memorable dining experience.
Loft description : This is the second floor of my 4 level / 3 unit loft converted warehouse building. It is truly unique to the area (The building was originally a turn of the century boot factory and it is not at all a common type structure for this Plateau district, which features mostly duplex and triplexes of typical apartment configurations). This loft unit was totally renovated in 2004 and has all new fixtures, appliances and furnishings. Total living space is approximately 1200 square feet. The loft has an East facing wall of windows : actually 7 in all, totaling 40 feet by 9 feet high of sheer window (“Tons of light”).
It is an open space concept “Loft” in the true sense. However there are two closed bedrooms.The entire loft has custom colored beautiful chocolate wide plank hardwood maple floors. I constantly get rave comments on how magnificent they look. The ceilings are exceptionally high at 12 feet, and all the lighting is ceiling enclosed mini halogens with dimmer switches for a comfortable ambient effect (Everywhere in fact : I am a fanatic for this feature I must admit. Even my bathrooms have dimmers).
Furnishings and Décor : I utilized the same chic modern approach to this loft, similar to what was part of the design of my other “Mezzanine and Terrace Loft Suite” : A combination look of very white on white with dark chocolate accents and chrome, black lacquer, and glass effects for details. Furniture and accessories are a mix of 60’s and 70’s finds like Aimes style items : Barcelona chrome and white leather dining room chairs and table set, Arc Lamps, Chrome Pillar lamps, 60’s round smoked glass coffee table with “Jetson” spider chrome base, and a sectional modular sofa L shape living room set. Area carpets are bright colored patchwork Turkish stripe and check modern designs. There are also 6 free standing custom wardrobes with lights, which function for clothing storage, kitchen accessories and dishes, and entertainment (TV and home theatre items), all discretely hidden away when not in use. Really a fun and very chic loft.
Bathroom Facilities : I always incorporate a large bathroom in all my loft renovations. I also go for rather grand proportions on basic features : i.e. there is a vanity mirror that is 6 ft high by 9 ft long. The room also has a pedestal sink and a very large walk in ceramic shower. A new modern electronic washer and dryer are in a discrete closet enclosure and another closet is just for toiletries and linens, etc.
Sleeping facilities : Two closed bedrooms.
